Monitoring and Evaluation Program Officer

The Alliance is seeking a dynamic and resource full team member to support the monitoring of large land restoration and livelihoods programs in Africa, Asia and Australia. As member of a close-knit team in Australia you will be working together on the development and roll-out of monitoring and mapping tools, assist in the set-up of data management systems and help running the web-based monitoring platform of the organisation.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Alliance is seeking a dynamic and resource full team members to support the monitoring of large land restoration and livelihoods programs in Africa, Asia and Australia. As member of a close-knit team in Australia you will be working together on the development and roll-out of monitoring and mapping tools, assist in the set-up of data management systems and help running the web-based monitoring platform of the organisation.

You will regularly visit the program areas and engage with the local partners in capacity building and provide technical assistance. You will have the opportunity to innovate and support novel approaches, participate in professional development and connect with networks of professionals in the areas of monitoring, land management, carbon credits and Geographical Information Systems.

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL BE:

  • Supporting the monitoring and evaluation of large community-based land restoration programs in Africa, Asia and Australia
  • Coordinating data collection and data analysis
  • Building the capacity of local partners in monitoring and data management
  • Engaging with stakeholders to strengthen the Global Restoration Monitor

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Support the development and application of mobile field data collection tools relevant to landscape restoration and carbon sequestration
  • Build capacity of partners to undertake mobile field data collection
  • Improve and strengthen GEA web-based mapping tools and monitoring platform (GRM)
  • Assist with on-going quality assurance, data security and risk management
  • Coordinate monitoring data management and analysis
  • Engage with GEA member organisations to ensure a flow of quality data for the Global Restoration Monitor
  • Develop and drive new initiatives that improve the reach and quality of monitoring
  • Disseminate GEA’s monitoring work in technical fora, relevant workshops, seminars and professional journals.
  • Connect with formal and informal networks on monitoring, land management, carbon credits and Geographical Information Systems.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Tertiary qualifications at master’s level, or equivalent experience, in a relevant discipline such as Agriculture, Forestry, Environmental/ecosystem science, GIS/data management or Monitoring & evaluation
  • At least two years of relevant experience in program monitoring in an international development or environmental context.
  • Demonstrated experience in the design and use of mobile data collections tools
  • Sound understanding of landscape restoration and evergreening agriculture
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and ability to work in cross-cultural settings
  • Flexible and innovative mindset
  • Strong team player
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
